Living in current happiness?

Do something your future self will thank you for

This has been my favorite quote for about 5ever. I find it motivating, inspiring, clever, and downright smart. Am i right or am i right? Because We are preparing for our best future lives let’s be sure to make the future the best it can be!!???!!!!

*boom* *hold up*

Until lately, I had a come to jesus moment that put a halt to this “puts a fire under your butt” quote. I was making one of our thousand decisions for the day, and was contemplating between what I wanted to do now and what I think future me wanted – total conflicting moments. These occur to us multiple times a day and we gotta choose – do I do what I want to do or do I do what future me will be glad I did?!? *ahh bites nails*

Well – I’ve been so futuristic focused,  it had to get THIS RIDICULOUS FOR ME TO CHILL TFFFF OUTTTT (deciding over a nail polish color – plz roll eyes, it is well deserved)

There I was, realizing i needed an intervention BAD. And then my mind nearly exploded with this realization that we all too frequently forget about – *drumroll please*

What is life if we’re always living in the future and not enjoying the present. If we are constantly preparing for what’s ahead we never take time to ENJOY the present moment that (because living in the future)  past us was so frantically preparing for.

When we were kids, we so naturally followed our wants and desires because they made us happy – we didn’t fully (well, me, anyways) take logic into consideration. I just wanted to do what made me the happiest kiddo there ever was😊 today… as adults, the logic takes over too much. We see every pitfall and potential danger and when we think that the bad could possibly outweigh the good, and we drag race the  MF outta dodge!!

As we get older our fear gets bigger and bigger and our thoughts of achieving dreams gets smaller and smaller ( bills gotta be paid;  I can’t take a chance) . This makes us think “man, 5 years ago, I wish I woulda just gone for it”. I’d rather have a life full of “yep that is wrong” than a life of “I wonder what coulda been”. By following our current happiness, and chilling out instead of fretting about the future you could be 5 years into your DREAM!

What if we live in the moment, the only moment we are guaranteed, and think about what could go RIGHT with following our current happiness!  We need to live in the present without freaking out about the future and what could go wrong there.

For some peace of mind: Why would you think what you’re planning, what you’re frantic about is better than what God has coming your way? I believe we have to put our head down and do things we don’t want to do – but day in and day out, if it costs us our mental peace and sanity? It’s too expensive.

As a big ol’ lover of goals and a gift/curse futuristic mindset – I’m challenging you and myself to pull the reins on this future driven horse.

Take planning in moderation

Every day just try to be your best self possible (spread positivity, follow the golden rule, be someone you’re proud to be),

Find that silver lining when life doesn’t go as planned

Eat the damn ice cream and the reese’s

If you’re not happy where you are now, you never will be – seek joy in every moment; big or small

“Mae We All”… Keep the future in mind but don’t let it dictate your current happiness. And be sure to stop and smell the roses because life is going ridiculously fast and no matter how much we plan, it’s His way over ours 1000 times outta 10.

I like Olivia Pope's drive, Phoebe's spirit, and Old Dominion Lyrics. Pinterest Junkie, my Marketing major helps me view situations in an optimistic and positive light (blessing & curse) I'm just here embracing the uncertainty and trusting God's plan. I know everything happens for a reason and until then I will always search for that silver lining. So, Mae we all... become inspired a little more each day to choose happiness (and the largest cup of coffee available ;) )
